This forum was created by me, Shovinus (Joseph Bailey) as an external and more organised approach to the Open Universities own forums.
I suggest that you still use the Open forums as you main resource, but you may find you get a faster answer and more precise answer here for some of your questions.
If not no harm done.
There is also a chatbox for live chat with other students of these 2 courses, again alot less cluttered than the chat rooms in the open forum for instant chat.
Please feel free to make suggestions for any forums you think should be added or any that should be moved etc

Well as you had the thought to open this for our course I thought I would come along and visit to see it, It all sounds like a good idea and I hope that others come and see also and it might be a good place to talk and chat.

I will keep looking in and see how it goes.

Welcome to the M150/T175 forum Empty Nice one!

Post  matt_force Tue Sep 09, 2008 12:39 pm

You beat me to it! I was planning on putting some forums up, but you've done a tidy job yourself - thanks! The OU "forums" are ridiculously over-complicated (even for those of use who are pretty used to forum software).

Used quite a lot of forum software - both as a user and admin - but the OU one is too much for my brain....

Hoping a few more people will check in here; could prove to be more condusive to creating a bit of a sense of community. FirstClass sure as hell doesn't!

PS: It's Matthew (Matt) btw, I'm from sunny south Wales, and I'm studying M150 and T175 towards the B38 ICT Degree :-)

Matt you really do have a bee in your bonnet about first class, hilarious.......

Shovinus, I am sure plenty have seen it but may not know that it is OK to come in or wonder whether it is OK, its a shame that you can not write in the other regions maybe email a couple of people direct in the other forums and ask them to put the link in for you. as otherwise it is only region 3 that is going to know about this site.......

I think later we will be given tutors and introduced as members properly (I hope) we are getting more each day, only today we had 4 more I believe. People are starting to talk now aswell, as soon as they get chatting it will be off, starting next week I will be paying more attention on this, at the moment it is really just starting out and in idle mode ready for the course to start properly.
You are right tho proberly people do realise, matt has helped by telling people its ok, I will do some more, I dont want to over push it, I want to make sure that people realise that altough this is a useful forum to talk among ourselves (and the first class moderators have told me they will pop by now and again) the first class site should be used to talk to the tutors.
This does not make this redundant as you can see most discussing goes on etween the students themselves and not the teachers, you learn quicker that way, by passing ideas between each other and testing.

Hi all. Thanks Shovinus.

I will make use of all available resources and hopefully contribute usefully to those I can write to (R1, London for me, plus here of course). The only difficulty I foresee is deciding where to start new threads but I guess it will filter through eventually.dd A benefit of this forum is that it can bring regions together. A word for FirstClass - it suits me now that I've been using it a few years; it provides access to other forums for up to about 2 years after you stop studying with the OU)

its confusing? :S oh dear thought was fairly stright forward, nevermind just post where you think should go and if its wrong the mods will move it anyway.
But basically discussion areas is for general discussion under those topics, the course areas are for asking specific and discussing specific units.
Hope that helps.

Welcome to the M150/T175 forum Empty Hi First Course bit scared!

Post  Joniwhit Sun Sep 14, 2008 5:14 pm

Hi Everyone,
I'm Joni, This is my first OU course.
I work in a nursing home as the IT Administrator (only one that can work the computers!)
Im quite good with most areas of office and internet and have a very basic understaning of html.
My bf Phil is also doing this course so that should be fun.
I notice some of you are gamers, I am a games widow, UT being his favorite!
I have started working through the unit, the exercises and web refs are worrying me a bit as they are so easy and i'm not quite sure what I'm suppossed to be getting from them and whether i'm missing something.
Hopefully I will pick it up soon enough.

Oh BTW I'm mad about rock and metal so if anyone wants a chat about that i'm your girl!
