I'm finding the M150 stuff interesting but so far its not really stetching me, it is probably a great way to get back into academic work.

To be honest the most challenging side for me so far (and possibly the scariest and most subjective) is around plagiarism and referencing work.

Having said all this I am looking forward to playing with HTML and JavaScript both of which we all use everyday on the web but something I have never really gotten to grips with at the fundamental source cosde level.

TMA01 is going well and it was fun to read about "Slugbot".

Tutorial/induction on sunday at Harborne - anybody else going

see you there

Hi Branty,

Well, I should have been going to Harborne on Sunday, but work is getting in the way (which sounds like a better excuse than "I can`t be bothered" Rolling Eyes ). Seriously, it`s the first Sunday I`ve worked in ages. I can`t refuse the job, as I`m suffering from "credit crunch" (not debt, just lack of regular employment).

This is my first visit to the M150 website, so I`m just finding my way around. I read on the other forum about this "Slugbot" business. Can you explain what it`s all about ? I assume it`s part of the course, which hasn`t started yet, as far as I know. You`re not cheating are you ? Trying to get a head start ? Damn ! Looks like I`ll have to get crackin` or I`ll be the class dunce. I`m looking forward to starting the course, but it`s been over 20 years since I`ve had to stretch my brain, so I`m hoping that the grey matter still works. I`ll soon find out.

Derv --

Slug bot is part of question 2 on the first TMA, I have had some spare time at work and am working way from home so decided to get ahead.

Dean --

The tutorial/induction info came by post last Saturday.

also noticed in the OU forum that you seemto have been providing an opinion on information or data regarding slugbot - is this giving the answer away??

are we not supposed to discuss our course work then? i thought thats what the forums were there for, oooops, i'm just panicing as i want to do well ... the way i see it this is not a closed book exam and chatting about the subject mater tests your own understanding with others, we are all here for the same reason and thats to learn and if we can help each other we all learn rom each other

is it ok or me share my lack of understanding here? i'm not a complete idiot i studied ccna (cisco networking) last year so i think i was over complicating things as usual this is the first assignment and the subject mater is very basic compaired to Cisco but i'm sur it will become more challenging

Oh and branty nice touch with the mechanical engineer i too have been an engineer for the last 20 years untill my accident working for Cummins diesel had spinal surgery feb this year but still aint right hense the need to retrain... good luck mate

Had 18 years at Rover in Longbridge, mainly in works engineering - looked after HVAC in factories and offices, moved into Network Services looking afer networks and voice projects in 1998. lucky enough to get a secondment out with BMW in Munich for a year as well.

Came back and worked for a Telco for a year in 2001 and moved to Aviva (Norwich Union) in Norwich for 4 years before moving back to Brum with Certegy

Now working for for a FTSE company up in Yorkshire as an IT project manager with a focus on infrastructure, would like to use this course as an opportunity to ove nto application projects
