My aims and goals
Well, I am hoping to become part of a web development team, I have been learning visual basic by myself for a few months and created a few programs for my own use, I am going to move to C++ soon and learning Java should be very useful. I am not sure entirely yet where I am headed, but I wish to work from home over the internet because my girlfriend is Polish and we are hoping to move to Poland at some point so having a mobile point of work will be very useful.
I am thinking of maybe setting up my own business with some contacts and hopefully I may meet other like minded people on this course.
I like creating images using adobe software such as illustrator, photoshop and flash.
The open university logo at the top was created very quickly using illustrator and photoshop.
I first became interested in programing when I stumbled across a game that allowed you to script in it called x3 (www.egosoft.com - search for my nick name and you will find my work on the forums) I found I had a nact for solving problems that others couldn't using scripts.
I am going to complete the Computing with business course (I hope) and wish to make some good friends along the way.
Anyway enough about me, what about you? what are your goals?

Re: My aims and goals
The Dream....
I'm hoping to get into web development / become a network sysadmin.
My goals:
-Develop a successful money-making website
-Become a sysadmin (or other similar IT job)
-Start a PC retailer business
The Reality...
Unfortunately - the reality is somewhat different!
Me at the mo:
-A string of half-finished websites, none of which made any significant amount of money
-Crew member at McDonald's
-Build PCs for myself & family
The course - what I hope to gain:
Will be linking this to the B38 Bsc (Hons) Information & Communication technologies, in the hope of getting job mentioned above (no, not Maccy D's!)

Re: My aims and goals
For me?
No dream further than advancing my career. I've reached a stage where I need a degree to progress. Linking M150/T175 to a BSc in Computing.
At the moment?
I'm an Assistant Project Sponsor in the Intelligent Transport Systems Research Group, part of the Highways Agency. I've worked with / owned computers since the age of 9 (BBC Micro B+, awesome computer - remember Elite anyone?). I've been a sysadmin in a WAN storage solution firm. I can program (to a reasonable level) in PHP, VB, Python, some Java and a few other obscure ones. I run Linux, and am currently trying to avoid the horror of Windoze as much as possible. My current interest is in encryption methods in relation to networking. Anyone recommend any good books?
I'm hoping the degree will give me a better insight into computing in general, I'm self taught and there are large gaps in my knowledge!

Re: My aims and goals
Approaching 60 (next month), just achieved Granddad status (two weeks ago) - better than an Olympic gold.
I was generally a clerk until the early '80s, when I was asked to find some use for a ZX81. Like a duck to water, I haven't stopped splashing since. Yes, the Beeb was a great and pleasant thing; I've got the makings of a Master 128 buried somewhere in my stacked garage. I have a 20-year old degree (BSc(Hons) Society & Technology) from Middlesex, 1987, when it was still a Polytechnic. I did some computing (BASIC, Fortran, Prolog, networking) during that, turning then to freelance computer installation and support and part-time lecturing at various colleges.
I've completed the Cert in Web Apps (TT280 through TT382) - hard work but most rewarding in many ways, like all good study. I like programming in general, whether simple scripts or more sophisticated procedures or objects. I'm equally happy with procedural or object-oriented languages and some I do better than others,
I'm doing M150 as part of an eventual (perhaps) BSc Computing -and a little step back for a while from the 2nd and third level courses I've been doing so far (Cert Web App and M257, M253 and M359) - the last two of those are still ongoing for another month or so.

Re: My aims and goals
Hi all,
I am aiming for personal improvement with the courses I'm doing (but any professional/employment gains are an advantage ).
I've been the sysadmin of game servers/websites for the last 6 years without any qualifications so I figured it was time to get some

Re: My aims and goals
I'm 52 and doing this as an introduction to computing. No husband any longer so can devote as much time as I like to OU! I'm also doing U211 - Exploring the English Language and hope to get a BA (Open) at the end of it all. What to do with it - ah, there's the question!

Well Osiris virtually spoke for me in his post. I currently have CompTIA A+ and Network + but really need something more substantial, not that I'm demeaning them in any way.
Anyway, I'm currently attempting the M150 course and intend to register for the February '09 T175 course. We'll have to see what happens after that.
Here's hoping I have enough time to play my 360 when Gears 2 releases in November.
Re: My aims and goals
Hi All
At the moment I work is a Network Administrator, looking after 100 users.
I am having a go at m150 and t175
My aim is to get a degree to give myself for choice for further career. I am attempting to complete the Computing with Business Degree. I think it will be a long six years

Re: My aims and goals
Hi all
currently working as a Project Manager in IT, have been a network manager, service delivery manager and trained as a Mechanical Engineer.
Worked in many sectors - manufacturing with Rover and BMW, Finance with Norwich Union, Telco and now in retail.
Looking to use the degree to build on my knowledge, which is infrastructure biased, to expand into application and business analysis projects.
